How to Become a Scottish Freemason

Scottish Freemasonry in Western Australia welcomes men who are interested in learning more about our fraternity and the values it represents.  For centuries, Freemasonry has brought together men who seek friendship, personal growth, and the opportunity to contribute positively to their families and communities.  If you share these aspirations, Freemasonry may be a journey worth exploring.

Who Can Join?

Men aged 18 years and over who believe in a Supreme Being and who meet the standards expected of our members are eligible to apply for membership. Scottish Freemasonry welcomes men from all backgrounds and walks of life. Our members come from different cultures, professions, and beliefs, yet are united by shared values of integrity, respect, and brotherhood.

Joining of Your Own Free Will

Freemasonry is a voluntary organisation. A man cannot be invited or compelled to join; he must seek membership of his own free will and accord.  Traditionally, an applicant is sponsored by a current member of the fraternity. However, many men today first make contact through their local Lodge or through the District.

The Joining Process

Membership in Scottish Freemasonry is administered at the local Lodge level. The process usually follows these simple steps:

  1. Make Contact
Reach out to the District or a Lodge to express your interest.

  2. Meet Local Freemasons
You will have the opportunity to meet members of a Lodge near you in an informal setting and ask any questions you may have.

  3. Learn About Freemasonry
This allows you to understand our traditions, values, and commitments before deciding whether to proceed.

  4. Submit an Application
If you decide Freemasonry is right for you, a Lodge will guide you through the application process.
